The city of Crystal Lake recently announced that it was named one of the top 10 small cities in America by WalletHub, a personal and small business finance advisory group.
"We are very honored by this recognition," Crystal Lake Mayor Aaron Shepley said. "The ranking confirms what Crystal Lake residents already know -- Crystal Lake is a great place to live, work and play."
Shepley applauded Crystal Lake’s school districts, park district, downtown Crystal Lake and Chamber of Commerce for "working together on behalf of the community."
"This ranking is recognition of the community’s sense of pride," he said.
WalletHub conducted its ranking by creating 22 different criteria to measure attributes like quality of life, cost of living, number of restaurants per capita and more.
Crystal Lake ranked at the top for education and health scores. The city also enjoys a low crime rate and is ranked in the top 9 percent of the country for fire suppression services.
Residents of Crystal Lake have a low municipal tax rate, as well.
