Rep. Allen Skillicorn (R-East Dundee) is warning the East Dundee Village Board that he will work toward throwing out home rule if another sales tax is imposed on residents for trash collection.
"The East Dundee Village Board hiked sales taxes with the promise to provide trash collection," Skillicorn said, according to a press release. "Now they want to hike taxes again. Trustees, this is double taxation. You can't have the highest sales tax rates in the area and charge another Trash Tax. If East Dundee implements this Trash Tax, I will explore repealing Home Rule to lower sales taxes."
East Dundee has a combined sales tax rate of 9.75 percent — the highest in Kane County, TaxRate.com reported. Elgin's is 8.25 percent, and Gilbert and St. Charles have 8 percent rates.

Skillicorn represents the 66th House District. He took his seat in January, his online legislative biography says. He has lived in Algonquin, Crystal Lake and Dundee in the Fox River Valley.
