Rep. Allen Skillicorn (R-East Dundee) wants his Kane County constituents to remember that the deadline to file a property assessment complaint is Aug. 24 for Dundee Township residents and Sept. 5 for Elgin and Rutland township residents, according to his website.
Assessments complaints must be filed by the close of business 30 days after assessments are published in a local newspaper unless it lands on a day on which the assessment office is closed. The deadline is then moved to the next day of business.
Skillicorn noted that Elgin Township properties were equalized with a factor of 1.0779, and Rutland Township properties were equalized at 1.0504.

State law prohibits townships from accepting complaints after the deadlines. Residents who require more information about property assessments can contact their township assessor’s office.
Skillicorn also offers an instructional video on filing complaints.
