Social media commenters say Michael Madigan should follow daughter out door

Law

Attorney General Lisa Madigan's recent announcement to not seek re-election was met with a range of responses throughout the state.

The Northwest Herald's Facebook page, for example, contained a couple of comments that mostly targeted Madigan's father, House Speaker Michael Madigan (D-Chicago).

“She knows when its time to leave, now her dad just needs to go,” Cynthia Cammarata wrote. “She won't win governor. Maybe she will try and go federal but I don't think she could win governor.”

“Tell her to take her dad with her!!!” Donna Hultberg wrote. “Neither one (is) any good!!”

Madigan is the longest-serving attorney general in state history, as well as the first woman to hold the office. She had previously declared her intentions to run for a fifth term in 2018, but has now reversed course, saying in a statement that she would move on to a new challenge.

Capitol Fax reported that she said she will not run for any office in 2018 nor seek Chicago’s mayoral seat in 2019.
