The year might be cooling off, but teams from McHenry County College (MCC) are heating up.

In late September, the men’s soccer team won back-to-back games over Elgin Community College and Truman College. The Scots shut out Truman 3-0, with Kendall Stork scoring in the first half and Fernando Tapia adding two second-half goals.

The Scots then took down Elgin with a 5-3 win thanks in large part to Stork, who found the back of the net four times. He scored in 10th minute of the game, added goals in the 15th and 20th minutes, and scored once more in the 88th minute off a penalty kick. MCC goalie Riley Lundgren made five saves in the win.

The Scots volleyball team is also enjoying a successful season and recently finished play at the Parkland Invitational with a 3-3 record. MCC opened against Muskegon Community College, dropping the first two sets before bouncing back to win.

MCC fell to Lincoln Land Community College and John A. Logan College in their next two matches, but MCC then knocked off Rend Lake in straight sets and Southwestern Illinois College 3-1. The Scots lost to Owen Community College before closing out the tournament with a win over Morton College. At the time of publication, the Scots have an overall record of 21-10 and are undefeated in conference play at 5-0.

The Scots volleyball team claimed the NCJAA Region IV title last year, which earned the group a place in the NJCAA Division II volleyball tournament. Three players from last year’s team were named to the Region IV first team and four made the Region IV all-tournament team.

On the baseball field, freshmen Tristan Kellog and Jeff Heinrich have been named to the list of "Top Junior College Freshman" by Perfect Game USA. Kellog is ranked 54th and Heinrich 109th out of 154 incoming freshmen.

The baseball team is expected to have a good season coming off back-to-back conference championships. Last year, the Scots finished the regular season with a 47-12 record and reached the semifinals of the NJCAA Region IV tournament. A number of Scots received conference awards, and MCC manager Jared Wacker was named Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference coach of the year. Nick Vasic was named ISCC player of the year.
