CARY PARK DISTRICT: Kraus Senior Center June Events

Cary Park District recently issued the following announcement.

The Cary Park District’s Kraus Senior Center, 441 W. Main Street, offers a wide variety of low-cost programs, events and trips for seniors.  Senior Center hours are 8:30 am to 1:30 pm Tuesday,

Thursday and Friday. For more information about the events and programs at the Senior Center call 847-639-8118. All programs take place at the Senior Center unless otherwise noted.

Ellwood Mansion Tour

Elegance and refinement await at the Ellwood Mansion. Tour the lavishly decorated home situated on ten acres of parkland in the heart of DeKalb. Stroll through the native gardens and browse four exhibit halls in the visitor’s center. The 1979 mansion was built for Isaac Ellwood, the barbed wire entrepreneur and lived in by three generations of his family. After the tour, the group will dine on a self-pay lunch at the Hillside Restaurant in downtown DeKalb. The tour is scheduled for Friday, June 8 from 9:00 am – 3:30 pm. Cost is $21 for residents and $25 for non-residents. Registration deadline is May 25 and refunds will not be issued after the deadline.

Luau Event

Dust off your grass skirt or Hawaiian shirt and hula on over for the best of island fun on Friday, June 15 from 11:00 am-1:30 pm at the Community Center. The party begins with tropical punch and a luncheon of sweet and sour chicken, confetti rice, vegetable, bean salad and dessert followed by a show of authentic Hawaiian Dancers. Enjoy beautiful music, exotic moves and lots of tropical fun. Cost is $10 for residents and $11 for non-residents.

Souper Duper Fridays

Join us for a FREE bowl of soup and a slice of bread on the first Friday of the month. Soup will be served at 11:00 am on a first come, first serve basis while supplies last. Our next Souper Duper Friday will be Friday, June 1.

Glee Club

Every Tuesday in June (5, 12, 19, and 26)

10:00 – 11:00 am

Lift your spirits and raise your voice in song. No experience necessary, no tryouts, no pressure. Everyone is welcome to participate as this program is designed for fun and socializing.

Poker Club

Every Tuesday and Thursday in June (5, 7, 12, 14, 19, 21, 26, and 28)

Tuesdays: 11:00 am – 3:00 pm

Thursdays: 10:00 am – 2:00 pm

Book Club

Thursday, June 14

10:00 – 11:00 am

The group will meets the second Thursday of each month. This month the group will be discussing “The Art of Racing in the Rain” by Fannie Flagg

Bridge Club

Club meets on Thursday evenings from 6:00 – 9:00 pm

June 7, 14, 21, and 28

Dominoes Club

1st and 3rd Thursdays in June 7 and 21

10:00 am – 1:00 pm

No experience is necessary; learn as you go. Bring a snack.

Mah Jongg Club

Tuesdays in June 5, 12, 19 and 26

11:30 am – 2:30 pm

Blood Pressure Checks

Friday, June 1

9:00 – 11:00 am

Fee: FREE

Receive a FREE blood pressure check provided by a registered nurse. No appointment necessary.

Canasta Club

Second Thursday of the month, June 14 at 11:00 am

Fourth Thursday of the month June 28 at 10:00 am

Bingo

Bingo is offered Friday June 1, 8, 22 and 29 from 11:30 am – 1:00 pm

Craft Club

Meets on Friday June 1, 8, 22 and 29 from 10:00 – 11:00 am

Memory Cafe

Meets the fourth Wednesday of the month (June 27) from 10:00 – 11:00 am. This free program offers support to those with memory concerns and their caregivers. Activities and refreshments are provided.
