CARY PARK DISTRICT: Kraus Senior Center July Events

Cary Park District recently issued the following announcement.

The Cary Park District’s Kraus Senior Center, 441 W. Main Street, offers a wide variety of low-cost programs, events and trips for seniors.  Senior Center hours are 8:30 am to 1:30 pm Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. For more information about the events and programs at the Senior Center call 847-639-8118. All programs take place at the Senior Center unless otherwise noted.

Patriotic Potluck Celebration

Celebrate Independence Day by participating in classic American activities and enjoying a potluck meal on Friday, July 6 from 11:00 am-1:30 pm at the Community Center.A patriotic sing-a-long and an all-American potluck followed by Bingo with cash awards and prizes. Sloppy Joes and beverages will be provided. This is a free event but all participants are asked to pre-register and provide a side dish to share. Registration deadline is June 29.

Annual Garage Sailing and Lunch Out

Climb aboard and travel by air-conditioned Park District bus and let us do the driving and find the sales while you hunt for treasures. We will stop for a self-pay lunch at Village Squire in Crystal Lake. Don’t miss out on our fun and thrifty shopping spree on Friday, July 13 from 9:30 am-2:30 pm. The trip departs from the Cary Park District Community Center. Cost is $10 for residents and $12 for non-residents. Registration deadline is July 6 and refunds will not be issued after the deadline. Trip return time is approximate.

Lunch Out Group

Enjoy an afternoon of food and fellowship as the “Lunch Out Group” travels to Franco’s Pesheria in Lake Zurich on Tuesday, July 17. Bus transportation departs from the Park District Community Center at 11:15 am and returns at approximately 2:30 pm. Meals are off the menu and self-pay. Transportation fee is $5 for residents and $6 for non-residents. Registration deadline is one week in advance of the event date and refunds will not be issued after the deadline.

Glee Club

Every Tuesday in July (3, 10, 17, 24, and 31)

10:00 – 11:00 am

Lift your spirits and raise your voice in song. No experience necessary, no tryouts, no pressure. Everyone is welcome to participate as this program is designed for fun and socializing.

Poker Club

Every Tuesday and Thursday in July (3, 5, 10, 12, 17, 19, 24, 26 and 31)

Tuesdays: 11:00 am – 3:00 pm

Thursdays: 10:00 am – 2:00 pm

Book Club

Thursday, July 12

10:00 – 11:00 am

The group will meets the second Thursday of each month. This month the group will be discussing “Sing Them Home” by Stephanie Kallos.

Bridge Club

Club meets on Thursday evenings (July 5, 12, 19, and 26) from 6:00 – 9:00 pm.

Dominoes Club

1st and 3rd Thursdays in July 5 and 19

10:00 am – 1:00 pm

No experience is necessary; learn as you go. Bring a snack.

Mah Jongg Club

Tuesdays in July 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31

11:30 am – 2:30 pm

Blood Pressure Checks

July blood pressure checks will take place on Friday, July 6 at the Cary Park District Community Center, from 9:45-10:45 am, just prior to the Patriotic Potluck Celebration.

Canasta Club

Second Thursday of the month, July 12, at 11:00 am

Fourth Thursday of the month, July 26, at 10:00 am

Craft Club

Meets on Friday, July 27, from 10:00 – 11:00 am

Come join the Craft Club and spread some cheer by creating cards for soldiers deployed overseas and also to create small gifts for Memory Café participants that meet monthly at the Kraus Senior Center.

Bingo

Bingo is offered Friday, July 13, 20 and 27 from 11:30 am – 1:00 pm.

Memory Cafe

Meets the fourth Wednesday of the month (July 25) from 10:00 – 11:00 am. This free program offers support to those with memory concerns and their caregivers. Activities and refreshments are provided.
