Cary FPD responds to 34 fires in 2017

Cary Fire Protection District responded to 180 calls in 2017 - 28.6 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Cary included 34 fires - 12 structure fires, five vehicle fires and 17 other fires.

In all, the department saw $117,650 in fire loss - or about $3,460 per fire.

The department also received 146 false calls, including one malicious call and 145 other false calls.

The Cary Fire Protection District had an annual budget of $4,152,732 in 2017.

The Cary FPD Firefighters Pension Fund, which has six active employees and one retired or inactive employee, was $58,355 in debt as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $2,653 for every fire in 2016.
