City of McHenry Landmark Commission met May 1.

Here is the minutes provided by the Commission:

Pat Wirtz opened the meeting at 7:01 pm

Members present: Pat Wirtz, Pat Schafer, Zelinda Paluch, Mary Kay Welter, George Lamm, Gerhard Rosenberg, Robin Schmidt, Jeff Varda and Kaaren Gies

Members absent: Nick Bennett and Celeste Heidemann

Guests: John Macrito and Jerry Macrito of Corkscrew Point also Judy Kaplan and Jay Bomberg of the Riverside House. They were here to present info re: application for Façade Grants to improve their buildings. Commission members asked questions from both parties regarding the colors and style of awnings that they are purchasing for their buildings. After all questions were answered, they would be notified when approval from the city was granted. Also, they could stay for the rest of the meeting if they chose.

We then started discussion re: the Riverside House, color and style of awnings and the amount of the grant. We came to an amount of $3000.00 for the grant, as this is one Of the largest buildings in McHenry and one of the oldest, if the city agrees. George L. made a motion for a grant of $3000, 2nd by Robin S. Motion carried. The building owners of Corkscrew Point, another large and old building on Riverside Dr. asked for 2 grants, one for the awnings and another for power washing the Building. We also agreed this is a big building and will be on the Riverwalk, so Voted for $3000 for awnings. Kaaren G. made motion for $3000, 2" by Zelinda P. Motion carried. George L. said we should table the power washing grant until we hear from city re; the awnings and the amount we voted on.

Minutes: Zelinda P. made motion to approve, 2nd by Pat S. Motion carried.

Treasurer's Report:

a. $104.84 for 1835 map of III. Being displayed at the library to Pat W. Robin S. motion to pay, 2nd by George L. motion carried.

b. $177.34 for easels to Pat. S. Used for displays at library. Zelinda P. motion to pay, 2nd by George L. motion carried.

Old Business:

a. Tear Down motion for the Petals and Stems buildings. Discussion re: reason and future use of land followed. MaryKay W. made motion to approve, 2" by George L. Motion carried.

b. George L., Pat W. and Zelinda P. got the donated diarama to the farm.

c. Several members went to the meeting at the Lehman Mansion in Lake Villa and reported how they use their buildings for weddings, etc.

New Business:

a. Jeff V. presented a paper regarding our historical heritage and the preservation Of our old buildings, etc. This will be on the agenda for July meeting.

Also discussed possible displays for the Day at Petersen Farm. Kaaren G. Said the stagecoach from Wells Fargo will be at the farm that day

Pat S. made motion to adjourn, 2 by MaryKay W. Motion carried.
