City of Harvard Park Board met Sept. 17.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

Chairman Jay Schulz called the meeting to order and called roll at 6:00 pm. Committee members present: Chairman Jay Schulz, Alderman Kevin Williams, Alderman Coffer, Jonathan Sara, Joel Kriete and Mike Vest. Alderwoman Tammy Herrera was absent. Also present were Mayor Kelly, Supt. Ryan Knop and Michele Froelich.

Citizen Comment

At Joel Kriete’s inquiry, Chairman Schulz replied that he has not been contacted by the Booster Club about a fundraiser to use one of the parks for a bonfire.

Fall Community Action Day

The Park Board discussed potential project(s) for a Fall Community Action Day. The consensus was it’s too late for the fall season and to plan something for the spring. Supt. Knop was directed to put together a proposal for the October or November meeting for a Spring Community Action Day and by July, 2019, for a Fall Community Action Day.

Park Prioritization Review

A motion was made Jonathan Sara, seconded by Alderman Williams to approve the bid received from Powers in the amount of $24,600 to remove/trim trees in Lions, Mary’s and Moose Parks this fall. After discussion, Jonathan and Alderman Williams amended their motion and second respectively to transfer funds from the capital improvement fund to cover the cost; the funds will be transferred back in 2019/2020. All ayes. Motion carried.

The Park Board reviewed the list of improvements as discussed on September 8, 2018. Items that need to prioritized at the next Park Board meeting for FY2019/2020:

1. Mow all areas (20k)

2. Restore tennis courts at Northfield (2k)

3. Clean up gazebos & landscape around them at Northfield (4k)

4. Tear out ice skating rink and replace with grass at Lions (5k)

• The consensus was to not put out the temporary ice rink (previously located in the volleyball court) for the upcoming winter season.

5. Move shelter from Jaycees to pool sand area (20k)

6. Benches for gazebo and walking path at Country Brook (2k)

7. Remove playground equipment and replace at Park Pointe (20k)

8. Gate off Park Pointe from Kennedy Drive (3k)

9. Tear out tennis court at Shadow Creek (5k)

10. Remodel concession stand at Moose (15k)

11. Rebuild basketball court at Mary’s Park (5k)

Supt. Knop’s Report

Supt. Knop reviewed his report and updated the Park Board on activities and programs he is working on.

New Business

There wasn’t any new business.

At 7:40 pm, a motion was made by Alderman Williams, seconded by Mike Vest to adjourn the meeting.

All ayes. Motion carried.
