Former state school employee Levans paid in $22K to teachers' pension fund, could collect $341K in retirement

Former state school employee Jane Levans, who retired in May 2018, saved $22,479 toward a pension over 13 years working for public schools, Teachers' Retirement System of the State of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Levans would collect as much as $341,281, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes McHenry Times.

The projection assumes Levans received $7,173 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 4 years of retirement, Levans will have already received $30,009 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the teachers' pension fund.
