CITY OF CRYSTAL LAKE: Commercial Fire – 7218 N. Virginia Road

Fire 12

City of Crystal Lake issued the following announcement on May 21.

On May 20, 2019 at 11:23 AM, the Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department responded for a reported structure fire at 7218 N. Virginia Road in Crystal Lake. Initial arriving crews, at 11:27am, reported a working fire with smoke visible from the roof. Occupants evacuated prior to Fire Department arrival. The initial engine company assumed an offensive strategy and made entry into the structure with a hose line to suppress the fire. Soon thereafter, a truck company utilized their aerial ladder to deploy a hose line to the roof and extinguished the fire. The building is monitored by a fire alarm system and protected by a sprinkler system. The alarm system functioned to notify occupants to evacuate, and provided notification for dispatching the Fire Department. Dispatch was also prompted by 911 callers and Crystal Lake Police Officers in proximity to the building on another call for service. The sprinkler system activated and contained the fire from spreading elsewhere in the building. There were no injuries to the occupants or firefighters.

Mutual aid agencies were called to assist Crystal Lake utilizing the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS). Crystal Lake Command requested a box (first level) alarm with units from Algonquin, Barrington-Countryside, Carpentersville, Cary, Huntley, Marengo, McHenry, Nunda Rural, West Dundee, and Wonder Lake assisting.

The fire was deemed under control at 11:48 AM. Fire investigators from Crystal Lake and surrounding communities are investigating the cause of the fire. Damage is estimated at $35,000.
