Illinois state Rep. Allen Skillicorn (R-Crystal Lake) recently toured a local county jail that is being used to house federal inmates. County administrators lease space inside the McHenry County Correctional Facility for prisoners from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency.
Skillicorn toured the facility in Woodstock last week, paying particular attention to the ICE operations there. He said the officers and staff were very professional, and that federal inmates receive human and civil rights along with medical care during their detention.
The county jail is one of more than 600 such facilities that hold federal ICE detainees across the country. Currently, the McHenry County location detains undocumented migrants.

Skillicorn supports strong immigration policies and has spoken out about current immigration trends.
“I’m very concerned about so many Illinois politicians who are weak on public safety issues, putting our safe communities at risk,” he said in a statement after his visit.
The lawmaker has represented the 66th district since 2017.
