City of Crystal Lake issued the following announcement on Feb. 25.

It has been reported to the Crystal Lake Police Department that within the city limits of Crystal Lake that a person(s) is going door-to-door and identifying themselves as City of Crystal Lake employees working on behalf of ComEd. The subjects are requesting to collect an alleged past bill as well as attempting to solicit a 3rd party electricity provider.

All solicitors are required to be registered with the City of Crystal Lake and must display a city-issued permit at all times. The City of Crystal Lake does not endorse nor work in conjunction with any door-to-door solicitors, including ComEd. If you should have an encounter with this or any solicitor that does not have a permit displayed, uses questionable selling tactics, or does not acknowledge "NO SOLICITOR" postings, please contact us immediately at our non-emergency number at 815-356-3620. If you feel you need immediate assistance, please do not hesitate to dial 911. While most companies abide by city licensing requirements, there are those that refuse to; please assist us in identifying these solicitors by getting a physical description of the person or vehicle they drive.
