A principal’s decision created three major changes for Elmhurst as the school year begins.
According to Daily Herald, a search firm reached out to Erin DeLuga while she was principal at York High School. The company was interested in DeLuga being promoted to a leadership spot in Lake Zurich Unit District 95. She applied for the spot, was accepted, and started this year.
Glenbard East High School principal Shahe Bagdasarian took her place at York High School. Antoine Anderson subsequently filled the newly vacant role at Glenbard East.
Now, all three are faced with navigating through school and educational changes throughout COVID-19.
DeLuga, who was once an aspiring FBI agent, told the Daily Herald, “It’s been a wild ride. I didn’t anticipate ever being an educator, but I’m so glad that happened because it’s definitely my life’s passion. I just didn’t realize it at the time.”
Bagdasarian had a personal approach as he visited every freshman English class at the beginning of each school year at Glenbard East High School.
“I think it’s really important as a principal to be visible,” he said, according to Daily Herald. “You have to be intentional with that. Take every opportunity you can before school, after school, being in hallways, walking through the cafeteria – those are all part of the job.”
He was at Glenbard East for more than a decade when he decided to transfer to a new school.
Anderson said stepping in as the new principal was a seamless decision for him, and he’s ready to take on the new challenges at Glenbard East.
“I couldn’t imagine a better group of educators to take on these challenges with… When you walk these halls on a daily basis, what you see is a reflection of our society. I’m very proud of that.”
