BEAUTIFICATION OF HARVARD PHOTO CONTEST
Raul updated the Commttee on the status of the yard and garden photo contests. There were about 20 overall entries. Raul submitted his votes to Derek for each of the contests and thought they would be able to announce the winners within a week or so. They haven’t determined the value of 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners but prizes will be gift certificates to local businesses. So far, $250 has been committed from the Events Committee as well as donations from Raul and Alderman Opper. The consensus was that it wouldn’t be necessary to hold funds in reserve for next year and that it should be fairly easy to get sponsors for the contest next year. Francine related she heard a couple complaints from the Harvard Garden Club that we didn’t include them. The Committee discussed partnering with the Garden Club next year and have them take it over the following year. Raul and Derek will do another video announcing the winners and Raul will reach out to one of the members to promote the Garden Club at the same time. Mayor Kelly recommended posting something on Facebook in the next couple days that the winners will be announced soon.
CHRISTMAS IN HARVARD
• Activities that could move forward: Christmas Tree Decorating Project and Coloring Contest. The Coloring Contest pictures could be posted on the website with printed copies available at City Hall and perhaps Brown Bear Daycare. Women for Harvard would like to move forward with Visit with Santa, if allowed, at Starline. Sonia will try and have a report for next month.
• Cancelled activities: Breakfast with Mrs. Claus, Craft Show, Kids Crafts, Entertainment, Parade, Raffle, Refreshments.
• The Committee discussed bringing back the holiday decorating contest, one for residents and one for businesses that could be done virtually. Francine volunteered to chair the subcommittee and Katie volunteered to assist.
• Laura felt we should scale back both advertising (Raul/Derek) and sponsorship (Laura). Each subcommittee was asked to bring back the cost for their event at the next meeting.
• The Committee discussed asking Derek and Jackie to redo the Christmas in Harvard Poster.
