McHenry TWP FPD responds to 95 fires in 2018

McHenry Township Fire Protection District responded to 546 calls in 2018 - 6.2 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in McHenry included 95 fires - 34 structure fires, 16 vehicle fires and 45 other fires. The fire department also responded to three calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $1,567,456 in fire loss - or about $16,500 per fire.

The department also received 448 false calls, including 11 malicious calls and 437 other false calls.

The calls resulted in two civilian fire-related injuries. Additionally, two fire service member were injured in non fire-related incidents.

The Mchenry Township Firefighters Pension Fund, which has four active employees and one retired or inactive employee, was $311,279 positive as of April 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $3,113 for every fire in 2017.
