Crystal Lake Park District issued the following announcement on Nov. 30.
As the Crystal Lake Park District continues to navigate through the changing restrictions of the Covid-19 pandemic, we need to modify the Luminaria Walk (again) to provide the most responsible and safe environment for our community.
The Luminaria Walk is now named ‘Holiday Night Hike’. Enjoy a beautiful night under the stars as we light a trail through our magnificent Veteran Acres. Our illuminated trails (approx. 1.3 mi) is a mixture of paved, gravel and grassy surfaces.
Event changes include the following:
PARK DETAILS:
- The Holiday Night Hike is now being offered on six separate December evenings (Dec 4 & 5, Dec 11 & 12, Dec 18 & 19) from 4:30-7:30 pm.
- Trails were expanded to accommodate more social distancing. Note: some trails may be closed due to weather-related conditions.
- Non-illuminated trails and other parts of the park will close at dusk.
- Face coverings and social distancing required.
- Warming stations (campfires) will not be lit along trails.
- Oakwoods Lodge, Rotary and Nature Center buildings will be closed.
- Restrooms will be open at VA picnic shelter and Nature Center.
- Hot cocoa, s'mores station and caroling are cancelled.
- Please sign up for the evening your group plans to attend and include number of people in your group.
- Limit of 300 persons per night (registration required to eliminate crowds.)
- Parking and start of route can begin from either the Veteran Acres parking lot (431 N. Walkup Ave) or the Nature Center (330 N. Main Street).
- Arrivals may be anytime between 4:30-7:30 pm. NOTE: the entire trail will take approximately 45 minutes to hike.
- In case of inclement weather, please call 815.410.4475 or go to rainoutline.com for up-to-date cancellations.
- Low mobility trail is located around the Veteran Acres pond. Handicap parking is located at Oakwoods Lodge, 46 E. Terra Cotta Avenue.
