Illinois Senate Republican Leader Dan McConchie (R-Hawthorn Woods) said he is happy to learn about the expanded access to the COVID-19 vaccine which allows anyone in Illinois with an underlying health condition, regardless of age, to be eligible to get vaccinated.

“I am pleased to hear that the sickest amongst us and at most risk of death from COVID-19, regardless of age, will soon have access to the vaccine,” McConchie stated.

Though he stays hopeful, McConchie also commented that this could have been planned and carried out earlier.

“While the state should have provided some method from the very beginning for those whose doctors have been insisting that their patients’ life or health depends on being vaccinated, as has been the case in other states, there is now a light at the end of a very long tunnel for those in greatest need.

The Republican Leader said that there could be further discussions, planning, and more efficient and fair implementation in administering the vaccine.

“I hope Gov. Pritzker will create a more open dialogue with the legislature to build upon this improvement, to increase effectiveness of vaccine distribution, and to ensure the state is fair and equitable to all in need.”
