State Rep. Dan Ugaste (R-Geneva) looks forward to working on a bipartisan budget to improve Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s budget, which he said is again violating the Illinois Constitution.
Critical of the address made by Pritzker, Ugaste said that it was an “extremely partisan state and budget address.”
“His budget again violates state law by not being balanced and relies on robbing Peter to pay Paul,” he said.
Ugaste emphasized the need to help employers get back on their feet from the economic crisis that the state has long been facing, which has been worsened by the COVID-19 pandemic. He said that the existing reforms that the governor is excluding are the real support systems that the businesses need, that if removed will cause further harm, including more Illinoisans being jobless.
“What’s worse is it relies on what the governor calls closing corporate loopholes which are really business incentives used to bring and keep employers in this terribly mismanaged state which if eliminated will cause greater harm to our economy and lead to greater unemployment,” he continued.
“I’m glad we have months left to negotiate a bipartisan budget and look forward to the governor working with the legislature, not sidelining us yet again.”
