The Gary Rabine for Governor campaign has issued the following press release:
Parents across the country are outraged about critical race theory being taught in our classrooms. There are more than 20 states looking to ban Critical Race Theory. I believe Illinois should be one of those states. Below is a statement calling for Illinois to ban critical race theory in the classroom:
Gary Rabine, a candidate for governor, is calling on Illinois lawmakers to follow the lead of other states and enact legislation to ban critical race theory in schools
“Critical race theory focuses students’ attention on the things that divide us rather than on the ideas and principles that should unite us,” Rabine said. “Of course, our school curriculum should be honest about the past, but we also must be honest about the tremendous progress we have made over the years as a nation. Despite our flaws, the United States of America is a great nation with a great history. Critical race theory presents a dystopian view of our past that is not rooted in reality. Our kids should not be indoctrinated with the destructive ideas behind critical race theory.”
So far, six states have taken steps to ban critical race theory in schools and 15 other states are considering similar bans. The effort to ban critical race theory in schools is gaining momentum nationwide as more and more parents are becoming concerned about what is being taught in their local schools.
Earlier this year, a video surfaced of a Virginia High School teacher appearing to berate a student for not immediately pointing to racial differences between two people featured in a video. The video shows a white girl and black girl with the caption “What is Race?”
The teacher asks a student what he sees in the picture. He responds by saying, "just two people chillin.” The teacher then proceeds to berate the student for not immediately talking about the racial differences between the two girls.
“Critical race theory is not about trying to honestly understand history, and parents are beginning to understand this,” Rabine said. “A growing number of parents across the country are beginning to see just how destructive these ideas are to our nation. The idea that people can’t look at a picture of two girls from different races and see just people is not where we need to be as a nation. Illinois needs to join the growing number of states to ban critical race theory.”
