City of Woodstock Board of Police Commissioners met Dec. 6.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

A Regular Meeting of the Board of Police Commissioners of the City of Woodstock was called to order at 5:00 p.m. by Chairman Ron Giordano in the Woodstock Police Department Community Room. A roll call was taken by Chief John Lieb. Minutes were taken by Chief John Lieb.

Commissioners Absent:

Chief of Police John Lieb

Others Present: 

None.

Chairman Giordano made a Motion to approve the minutes of the September 13, 2021 Regular Meeting; second by Commissioner Troc. Motion approved.

None.

Department Update

A. The current eligibility list is exhausted. Chief Lieb is coordinating with Human Resources to conduct Police Officer Testing in the Spring of 2022 with the goal of a final eligibility list available in June 2022. We have no Academy slots saved until January 2023. Board feedback was to hold the written test in April, and interviews at the end of April or beginning of May.

Chief Lieb asked if a Sergeant’s Promotional Exam could be held. After discussion, all parties agreed that conducting such an exam in the second half of 2022 would be feasible.

B. Officers Kevin Avers and Mitch Marino should complete Field Training at the end of December.

C. The department continues to evolve with a variety of personnel changes. The new Deputy Chief has yet to be determined. Detective Shane Marshall will be promoted to Sergeant in May 2022. School Resource Officer Matt Prentice will be reassigned to Investigations as a Detective in January 2022. Officer Adam Fischer will also become a Detective in May 2022. Lastly, Officer Spenser Svehla will become the School Resource Officer at Woodstock High School and Officer Lucas Schmidt will fill the same position at Woodstock North High School in January 2022.

The only disciplinary matter consisted of one Officer suspended for one day for a preventable crash.

Old Business

A. Officer Charles Levy arrived as a lateral transfer on November 29, 2021. Officer Dale Frederick, also a lateral transfer, will start on January 4, 2022.

New Business

None.

Adjournment

Motion by Commissioner Howell, second by Commissioner Giordano to adjourn the meeting of the Board of Police Commissioners. Motion approved. Meeting adjourned at 5:30 p.m. on December 6, 2021 in the Police Department Community Room.
