Aaron Dorman, reporter with the Northwest Herald was present and picked up a copy of the book. D. Kenney explained the history of creating the book and a summary of the content. She noted the funds would be used to clean and restore the headstones in the Crystal Lake Cemetery. She stated how the commission has worked with the Township and the Historical Society to clean and make repairs and improvements to the cemetery.
D. Kenney asked about the sales price. Due to the publication costs, they decided on $15.00. N. Haskins and A. Freund will create a sign to post at the sale locations.
7) Landmark Meeting Follow Up
L. Solak noted there has been no additional progress on this item as everyone has been working on the cemetery book.
8) Trolley Tour
D. Kenney put together a list of the homes in a possible tour route. This route hits the most number of different homes. She went through the route and the houses. She suggested each member drive the route and see the time and organization of the tour presentation. They will research the homes and this can be divided up at the next meeting. There will need to be multiple sources that confirm if a house is a Sears Home. Since they have fewer homes this year, they can do one house per page so the articles can be longer and include more pictures including a catalog picture of the model.
D. Kenney explained the research process for the new members. There was some discussion on ticket sales and typical customers. D. Kenney also said they sell ads in the book to help offset the costs.
Mr. Dorman asked how it feels to have the trolley tour coming back after the past few years of it being cancelled. The Commission noted that they frequently receive inquiries about the tour as it is a very popular activity that typically sells out. They are all excited to bring back the tour.
9) Member Inquiries and Reports
B. Kosin said he found a list about Chicago Sears Homes. D. Kenney cautioned that all the homes listed may not be Sears Homes and further research into the house would need to be done. The Crystal Lake Historical Society is creating a master list of Sears Homes in the City.
10) Adjournment
There being no further business, D. Kenney made a motion to adjourn the meeting. A. Freund seconded the motion. All members voted aye. The meeting adjourned at 8:07 p.m.
