Patrick D. Kenneally, McHenry County State’s Attorney, announced that on June 25, 2024, Kwamann D. Gholson, 21, of Rockford, Illinois, was sentenced to three and a half years in the Illinois Department of Corrections by the Honorable Tiffany Davis after entering a guilty plea. The possession of a stolen motor vehicle charge stems from an incident that occurred on January 23, 2023.

On that date, officers from the Harvard Police Department were called to the area of Timber Drive in Harvard, Illinois when a concerned citizen reported a vehicle driving slowly around the neighborhood at night without its headlights activated. Upon arrival, officers observed a Kia Sportage accelerating away from them and driving through the yard of a residence. After a pursuit into Boone County, the vehicle drove off the side of the road and the driver was seen escaping on foot.

Harvard Police later learned that the Kia had been reported stolen out of Arizona. Officers searched the vehicle and found items belonging to Gholson inside. Officers involved in the pursuit who observed the driver were later able to confirm that it was Gholson.

McHenry County State’s Attorney Patrick Kenneally recognized "the hard work done by the Harvard Police Department." This case was prosecuted by Assistant State’s Attorney Justin Neubauer.
