On June 27, 2024, Cassandra L. Bass was sentenced to two years in the Department of Corrections for theft. The charge stems from an incident on June 1, 2023, when Bass entered a bank and used another individual’s personal information to fraudulently withdraw $4,000.

The account owner informed police that they had not authorized anyone to use their personal information or withdraw money from their account. Surveillance footage captured the events at the bank. The Crystal Lake Police Department obtained this footage and shared it with other departments, leading to Bass being identified for similar offenses in Cook and Will County.

The victim stated they did not know Cassandra L. Bass or how she obtained their banking information. In addition to her prison sentence, Bass was ordered to pay $4,000 in restitution.

McHenry County State’s Attorney Patrick Kenneally acknowledged the efforts of the Crystal Lake Police Department and the coordinated work of the Chicago Police Department and other agencies. Assistant State's Attorney Justin Neubauer prosecuted the case.
