William Mitchell, 40, of Crystal Lake, Illinois, was convicted on July 8, 2024, of non-consensual dissemination of private sexual images. The case proceeded to a bench trial before Judge Mark R. Gerhardt and concluded the same day with a guilty verdict. Sentencing is scheduled for August 19, 2024.

In August 2020, Mitchell sent private sexual images via text message without the victim's consent. Upon discovering this, the victim contacted the Crystal Lake Police Department, prompting an immediate investigation. Interviews and cell phone records confirmed that Mitchell had sent compromising photos to a mutual friend without consent.

McHenry County State's Attorney Patrick Kenneally thanked the officers of the Crystal Lake Police Department and McHenry County Assistant State's Attorney Tyler Mikan for their thorough investigation and commitment to community safety.
