Joseph L. Dean, a 21-year-old resident of Round Lake Heights, Illinois, was sentenced to eight years in the Illinois Department of Corrections on July 10, 2024. Dean pled guilty to the charge of unlawful possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, classified as a Class 1 felony. The sentence was handed down by Judge Mark Gerhardt.
In 2023, a tip received by the Lake County Metropolitan Enforcement Group from Crime Stoppers indicated that an individual was selling large quantities of controlled substances. The investigation led law enforcement officials to Snapchat and Telegram accounts where an undercover officer placed orders for controlled substances and connected with Dean.
Throughout June, July, and August of that year, law enforcement managed to purchase approximately 33 grams of cocaine in McHenry County. On August 18, 2023, surveillance efforts culminated in a traffic stop during which Dean was taken into custody and charged.
McHenry County State's Attorney Patrick D. Kenneally commended the diligence and thorough investigative work of the Lake County Metropolitan Enforcement Group. "Their diligent investigation of this tip led to a successful prosecution," said Kenneally, also recognizing the efforts of McHenry County Assistant State's Attorney Fara Momen.
