Matt H. Jones, a 46-year-old resident of Woodstock, Illinois, was sentenced to eight years in the Illinois Department of Corrections on July 3, 2024. Jones pled guilty to the charge of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance, classified as a Class X felony. The sentence was handed down by Judge Mark Gerhardt.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Narcotics Task Force received information indicating that Jones was actively selling narcotics from multiple rooms at the Super 8 Motel in Woodstock, IL. On March 14, 2023, the task force executed a search warrant on one of the motel rooms associated with Jones. The search revealed approximately 212 grams of psilocybin, packaging materials, cell phones, and cash. Jones was apprehended in the motel room following the execution of the search warrant and subsequently arrested and charged.

McHenry County State's Attorney Patrick D. Kenneally acknowledged the diligence and thorough investigative work conducted by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Department Narcotics Task Force. "Their thorough investigation led to a successful prosecution," said Kenneally, attributing part of this success to Assistant State's Attorney Fara Momen.
