The Algonquin Police Department said it will have special patrols on the roads this Halloween as part of its "Drive Sober of Get Pulled Over" campaign, aimed at discouraging drunk driving.

“Driving while alcohol- or drug-impaired is deadly, it is illegal, and it will get you pulled over and arrested this Halloween,” Sgt. Robert Salazar said. “If you want to stay safe and out of jail this Halloween, make a plan to get home without driving if you’re impaired.”

Nationwide, 43 percent of people killed in car crashes on Halloween night from 2009 to 2013 were in alcohol-related accidents, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said.
