The Lake in the Hills Airport is open on a seasonal schedule through the winter. Service fuel is available Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The airport is an FAA reliever airport for traffic in and out of Chicago's O'Hare International Airport, generating $17 million annually. It sees 34,000 operations each year and is the home base for 91 aircraft.
The interest in expanding airport facilities is part of a broader move to develop the airport. The Village of Lake Hills was recently awarded a $4.5 million grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation to reconstruct and expand the runway.
