Gov. Bruce Rauner will meet with state legislators on Wednesday to try and resolve the state's budget impasse.
Legislators have been locked in a stalemate over the financial plan for the state for over five months. In the meantime, the state's credit rating continues to drop, unemployment is rising, and more people and businesses are leaving the state to find other opportunities.
State Sen. Dan Duffy (R-Dist. 33) said he's looking toward a balanced budget with job-creating reforms that improve what he has called "Illinois' unfriendly business climate."
Duffy previously has released a report using Bureau of Labor Statistics data that found Illinois lost one resident every seven minutes in September, taking an estimated $50,000 in taxable income with each pf them. The BLS also found the state has the worst recession-recovery rate of any state in the country, with 200,000 fewer people working today than just before the recession began in November 2007. Meanwhile, the agency also found that neighboring states like Iowa, Indiana and Wisconsin added 128,000, 150,000 and 188,000 jobs, respectively, in September.
Rauner said the agenda for the Wednesday meeting will be circulated just prior to the meeting.
