The Crystal Lake City Council was briefed on Willow Creek Community Church's plans to relocate.

The Crystal Lake City Council was briefed on a proposal to relocate the Willow Creek Community Church on Jan. 5.

The council was told the church's Crystal Lake campus on Exchange Drive is not able to fit demand of attendees for regular services. Pastor Marcus Bieschke and Business Manager Don Greetham said that approximately 1,200 people attend Saturday and Sunday services on a regular basis at the church's seven locations across the Chicago area.

The proposed church would be on Main Street and able to house an auditorium with 2,000 seats, classrooms, gathering areas and outdoor spaces. Church representatives said the proposed auditorium would be approximately 40 feet tall.

Members of the council said their sole concern related to traffic and requested studies into how the new facility would impact area congestion on the road.

The council noted that there would need to be further deliberation regarding the proposal, but many council members indicated they support the idea.

Greetham said the entire campus would be completed in three phases spread over 10 to 12 years.
