The Village of Algonquin announced this week that it is accepting pieces for display as part of the Community Art Program.

The program has open art display space in indoor and outdoor locations, in addition to the public and private areas of Village Hall. Permanent media including paintings, photographs, drawings, illustrations, glass and metal are welcome to be submitted for review.

The program requires artists who submit work to be knowledgeable of public art -- and their work must be of professional quality. If selected, pieces should be sent ready to hang, and they should be prepared in a way that will ensure resistance to weathering, theft and vandalism. Both the Public Arts Commission and the Algonquin Community Development Department are tasked with reviewing submitted pieces.

The announcement notes that subject matter for pieces must be age appropriate for all groups and that pieces depicting graphic violence or sexual activity will not be accepted. Pieces will also need to comply with public safety requirements.

Artists wishing to offer their work for consideration will need to submit an art program application and the proposed piece in electronic form, either as a .JPG or a .PDF file.

Submissions will be accepted until Friday, April 1.
