Centegra will 'Wine and Dine Your Heart' during free physician lecture

Hearttalk

For the third consecutive year, Centegra Health System's free  “Wine and Dine Your Heart" lecture in Huntley on Feb. 18 promises to feed the community's passion for the popular event.

“The ‘Wine and Dine Your Heart’ lecture is a sold-out show every year,” Centegra Health System Public Relations and Communications Manager Michelle Green told the McHenry Times recently. “People love to hear Dr. Thomas Hinkamp describe the advanced cardiac procedures available right here in our community, and they enjoy tasting recipes prepared by our dietitians. We have people who reach out to us, asking when this year’s ‘Wine and Dine’ lecture will be.”

Hinkamp is a board-certified independent cardiovascular and thoracic surgeon on the medical staff of Centegra Health System. He earned his medical degree from Loyola Stritch School of Medicine, completed his residency at Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago and completed his fellowship at Loyola University Medical Center - Stritch School of Medicine.

During the lecture, Hinkamp will discuss heart attack prevention, screenings, symptoms and healthy lifestyle choices. In addition to the lecture, attendees will enjoy a dinner and a heart-healthy cooking demonstration with Julie Holbrook, Centegra’s cardiopulmonary and outpatient dietitian. Attendees also will get an opportunity to sample heart-healthy wines and learn why they are considered healthy for the heart.

“Centegra encourages people to stay ahead of heart disease because it’s best to catch cardiac problems in their earliest stages,” Green said. “We teach patients about lifestyle modifications, medications, and the wide range of minimally invasive and surgical procedures Centegra offers to treat heart disease.”

Green said community members come to the free lectures to learn more about health topics that are important to them, and the lectures are also a great opportunity to get to know members of Centegra’s medical staff.

Earlier this month, Centegra introduced a new lecture, titled “Capturing Control of Your Blood Vessels.” The lecture presented by Dr. Asim Zaidi, a board-certified interventional cardiologist with Centegra Physician Care, covered the signs and symptoms typically experienced with peripheral artery disease (PAD).

Zaidi, who joined Centegra Physician Care in 2015, discussed the effectiveness of advanced technology and techniques, and how they are becoming as effective as traditional surgical bypass options for PAD treatment.

The "Wine and Dine Your Heart" lecture will be held at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 18 at the Centegra Health Bridge Fitness Center - Huntley, 10450 W. Algonquin Road.

Registration is required.
