The village of Algonquin has issued a request for proposals to relocate and preserve the Franke House, considered to be a historic landmark.
The village said interested parties should submit proposals on moving the home, restoring it and to take ownership of the facility. The land that the home sits on was purchased for a larger redevelopment project. There is no option to purchase the land . Nearby structures have been demolished due to being neglected and in poor condition.
Proposals should indicate the timeline for the house's relocation, where it would be relocated and how the home would be utilized. Proposals will need to also provide evidence of experience in carrying out this kind of project and the financial ability to do so.
Proposals will need to be submitted to the village by April 30. The proposals will be reviewed until May 31. A finalized decision could be made in May but could also be extended to account for additional developments or negotiations.
The home was originally built in 1911 by Christ Franke for his business, Franke Lumber & Coal, and has housed families and businesses including artist studios and a psychic.
