The Crystal Lake City Council voted to approve extending an agreement for mosquito management services during its Jan. 19 meeting.
Under the agreement, Clarke Environmental Management Inc. will provide mosquito abatement services for an additional five years. Through this resolution, the council bypasses the traditional bidding process.
Public Works Director Victor Ramirez said the company was consistent with its work under the existing contract and had promised to hold the contract price for an extension.
The agreement also clarifies that aerial work will be limited to eliminating eggs and larvae in wetland areas, but spraying is an option for adult insects if the population gets out of hand. To exercise that option, the council would have to vote to approve the action.
The council also approved water tower painting maintenance at Poplar Street with Tecorp Inc. and the purchase of rock softening salt from Midwest Salt.
