The Woodstock Building Board of Construction Commission adopted international building codes during its Jan. 21 meeting.
The major changes focused on the difference between the city’s current international codes and the newly released codes. City Building Inspector Dan Streit presented the information and took questions from the commission members.
The commission made the decision to adopt seven codes, including the residential code, the building code, the swimming pool and spa code, fire code, existing building code, mechanical code, and the fuel gas code.
The commission determined that only some of the new codes should be adopted because of the minimal differences between the 2006 codes that were already in place and the newly issued codes.
The International Building Codes are developed by the International Code Council, and are utilized by state, municipal and federal governments globally. An earlier McHenry Times article reported that the new codes entail the appropriate use of new materials and building design.
