The community survey was discussed during the Village of Algonquin board of trustees meeting that took place on Jan. 19.
Mike Kumbera presented the results from the survey that was carried out in 2015. Kumbera stated that the survey offers insight concerning which village services should have more focus from staff and what areas are in need of improvement. A total of 1,500 surveys were sent to residents at random -- with a response rate of approximately 17.6 percent.
The board also discussed the results that indicated low ratings for value of services against the amount of tax money paid to the village. In response to this, the board indicated that it would direct staff to carry out educational efforts to inform the public how much the village receives from taxes.
It was also discussed whether moving the survey to an online format would be beneficial for result acquisition, but it was noted that doing online surveys exclusively would alienate non-computer users and would affect the results. Kumbera also stated that an online form of the survey would cost more than the allocated funds would allow.
During this meeting, the minutes from meetings of the board and partial sessions of the board, which took place on Jan. 5 and 12, were also approved.
