Algonquin recently was awarded a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the U.S. and Canada for the village's comprehensive annual financial report.

“Receiving this prestigious distinction demonstrates the village staff’s hard work and dedication to sound financial practices and fiscal responsibility,” Village President John Schmitt said. “The village will continue to strive toward these exemplary efforts in the years to come.”

The certificate designates that a financial report was developed with open disclosure practices and that it meets the association’s standards in reporting and effectively communicating the data included within the report. The award also recognizes the village's efficacy in motivating readership among user groups.

The village said it has received this distinction for the previous 12 years and that it is among 143 governments in the northern region of the state to be recognized with this award.

The certificate is the highest form of recognition in the area of accounting and financial reporting for municipalities, and represents quality work from the awardees and managers of financial reporting in governments.
