Republican candidate Paul Serwatka withdrew from the Illinois State House race today.
Republican candidate Paul Serwatka announced today that he is withdrawing from the race for the 66th District seat in the Illinois State House.
“I have decided to withdraw as a candidate for State House in the 66th District, effective immediately, and to endorse Allen Skillicorn for state representative,” Serwatka recently told McHenry Times. “I have notified the Illinois State Board of Elections of my intent. This was a difficult decision, but I did not want to split the conservative reform vote with Skillicorn and throw the race to Carolyn Schofield, who opposes important portions of Gov. Rauner’s Turnaround Agenda, including Prevailing Wage reform. Nor do I want to see Dan Wilbrandt, who has voted to increase taxes five times, including property taxes -- in just three years on his local village board -- win a divided primary fight.”
Serwatka was running for the two-year seat being vacated by Republican Mike Tryon. He currently holds the position of a Lakewood village trustee. Self-identified as a citizen legislator, Serwatka supports term limits, pension reform and property tax relief. He was endorsed by the Illinois Family Action, Family-PAC and former Rep. Joe Walsh (R-IL).
