Bob Miller is running for reelection as Algonquin Township Highway Commissioner
Approximately half of the donations to the re-election campaign of Algonquin Township Highway Commissioner Bob Miller have come from municipal highway vendors, a McHenry Times analysis reveals.
Thirty-five of the 172 contributions from vendors total $74,275.
The Times analysis tracked 356 individual donations to Miller since 2002 and found that 172 of them, or 48 percent, came from municipal highway vendors.
Algonquin Township declined to provide the Times with vendor information to match highway department spending against contributions to Miller’s campaigns, but village treasurer’s reports show that many of the highway vendors who donated to Miller have rich government contracts in McHenry County and across the Chicagoland area. The reports are published as public notices in state newspapers.
Miller, who has been in office since 1993, faces Andrew Gasser in the Republican primary on Tuesday.
Gasser is a former Air Force manager and a current McHenry County Board member.
