Here is the minutes provided by the Board:

1. Organization

1.1 Call to Order

The meeting was called to order by Mrs. Jette at 6:00p.m.

1.2 Roll Call

Members Physically Present: Julie Jette, Jennifer Crick, Brian Hauck Other Board Member Present: Scott Coffey, Ben Washow, Robert Bridge

2. Minutes

2.1 The minutes from the January 23, 2017 Curriculum Committee Meeting were approved as presented.

3. Discussion Topics

3.1 PE Assessment & Reporting

Mrs. McCall reported that in January 2016 the State announced that physical fitness testing would be a requirement. She said that since that time the District continued to receive updates from the State to prepare for implementation for this school year.

New Physical Fitness assessment will include the following subsets:

• Aerobic Capacity/Pacer Test

• Muscular Strength

• Endurance

• Flexibility

Mrs. McCall stated that our staff have already been assessing students in each of these areas and the only new component will be the reporting part of the process. All grade levels have to be assessed by only data from 5th and 7th grades have to be reported to the State by May 1st.

3.2 K-5 Social Studies Update

Mrs. McCall mentioned that the Social Studies Committee met this month to review the sample materials sent from Houghton Mifflin Harcort (HMH). She said that the Committee like the materials but still had questions regarding the program features.

Mrs. McCall mentioned that to allow our teachers to see the materials in their entirety and teach a lesson before making a final decision, a request was made to HMH to provide the District with actual materials. At this time the materials are not available to pilot but should be by August.

3.3 Dual Language Registration Update

Mr. Lopez stated that the Dual Language Program is in the midst of preparing for the 2017-2018 school year. He said there will be two kindergarten classes with a projected number of 20 students in each class.

Mr. Lopez mentioned that registration took place in January. He said if the interest level exceeds the estimated number, a lottery will occur to select the 20 English speaking students. Mr. Lopez stated that there are 44 students who have expressed an interest in dual language, registration will continue through March 24th and parents will be notified of acceptance in April.

3.4 Star 360

Mrs. McCall provided a presentation on the Star 360 Universal Screener that included information on:

• Background

• Rationale

• Universal Screener Search Process

• Assessment Strengths for Students and Teachers

• Instruction

• Reports

• Research

• Professional Development

• Financial Impact

• Implementation Timeline

Further discussion included; research, growth, comparing results, purchase price, contract, parent and teacher reports.

The Administration and K-8 RTI/ MTSS Committee is recommending the approval to purchase of Renaissance Star 360 for the 2017-2018 school year at the February 27, 2017 Regular Board of Education Meeting. Committee and Board agreed.
