State Rep. Allen Skillicorn (R-East Dundee) is racing to get the word out that millions of animals are looking for homes.

Skillicorn hit the track at Black Farms Raceway for the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) Majors road race to spread the word about Pet Rescue Motorsports recently.

“Pet rescue and adoption is of particular importance to my wife and I as volunteers for our local animal shelter,” Skillicorn said, according to a press release. “It is estimated that 6.5 million companion animals enter shelters annually in the U.S., but only half are adopted by a loving family. With so many animals in need of loving homes, anything we can do to help raise awareness is worthwhile.”

Pet Rescue Motorsports helps educate communities about pet rescue and adoption options, a cause Skillicorn will advance at the SCCA National Championships at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway thanks to his third-place finish in the Majors event. In addition to his work with Pet Rescue Motorsports, Skillicorn is working in the General Assembly to pass legislation in support of Illinois pets.

“Whether volunteering at a shelter, behind the wheel at the racetrack or working on legislation in Springfield, I look forward to more opportunities to raise awareness about this important issue,” Skillicorn said.
