U.S. Rep. Peter Roskam presented House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) with an oil painting titled Take a Knee on Tuesday as a remembrance of the unity shown by congressmen following the June 14 attack on a Republican baseball practice in Arlington, Virginia, at which Scalise was seriously wounded.
The painting was made by Roskam's wife, Elizabeth, and marks the ceremony that took place in centerfield of the baseball site where the attack occurred. Chaplain Patrick Conroy led a group in prayer.
"As word spread of your shooting, the overwhelming response was to pray for you," Roskam said, according to a press release. "It was the only thing we could do and the perfect image of that was all of the members taking a knee in centerfield."
