Cary-Grove Trojans score big in athletics programs

Cary-Grove High School is muscling up.

According to a study by Niche.com, a school-review website, Cary-Grove is the 36th best school in the United States when it comes to athletics. The Trojans athletic department received an "A" grade.

Niche, which offers an annual ranking of schools around the country in categories ranging from academics to athletics, based its athletic program list off of reviews from students and parents. It also took into consideration the sports offered and the number of boys and girls who participate in school-sponsored teams. 

As of publication, Cary-Grove is home to several boys and girls teams that enjoy success on and off the school.

This year, the Trojans football team is off to a 4-2 start, including a 49-22 win over Dundee-Crown High School on homecoming. It is in fourth place in the Fox Valley Conference and ranked 15th in the state.

The girls volleyball team is also enjoying a winning season with a 12-10 record. The Trojans have recorded wins over local rivals Crystal Lake South and McHenry high schools. Cary-Grove is ranked fourth in the Fox Valley Volleyball Conference and is 7-5 in conference play.

The Trojans boys basketball team is gearing up to start the 2017-2018 season with hopes of building on last season’s success when it finished in fourth place in the Fox Valley Conference with a 15-13 record. The team advanced to the second round of the conference playoffs, eventually bowing out to Grant High School.

The girls also had a good season o the hardcourt, finishing atop the conference with a 16-12 overall record and an 11-5 conference record. They beat McHenry, Crystal Lake South and Crystal Lake Central during the year.

Basketball season gets underway in mid-November.

The Trojans boys lacrosse team finished last season in third place in the Northern Illinois lacrosse rankings and were ranked 31st in the state with an 11-4 record. The team went undefeated at home, winning all seven games of its games at Cary-Grove.

The Trojans girls soccer team finished the year with a 10-3-0 record and took third place in the Fox Valley Conference with a 6-2-0 conference record. The team had a high-powered offense, winning seven games by three goals or more. The Trojans' biggest win of the season came in a 7-0 blowout against Richmond-Burton High School.

The boys baseball team also ranks among the best in the state. Last season, Cary-Grove finished at 24-10 and went 16-8 in conference play. The Trojans were ranked 19th in the state, and according to Maxpreps.com were one of the top 500 teams in the nation.
