The Crystal Lake Chamber of Commerce is accepting applications for the second round of the Blue Star Banner Program, a joint project by the city and the chamber to honor Crystal Lake residents and government employees who have served in the military or are actively deployed.
“The men and women on active deployment sacrifice so much for our freedom that a program such as the Blue Star Banner is a great way to highlight the efforts of the real heroes of our City,” the chamber said on its website.
Under the program, a maximum of 16 banners will be displayed on light poles along the Virginia Street Corridor and will remain up for three to six months before being given to the nominating party.
Applications can be sent to the Crystal Lake Chamber of Commerce. They will then be reviewed by members of Crystal Lake VFW Post 12014, American Legion Post 171 and TLS Veterans.
The application states nominees “must be deployed and have a demonstrated connection to the city of Crystal Lake.” Residents can also sponsor the banners.
