Dan Ugaste has a plan for getting Illinois back on course toward being a destination state.
“Whether we call them principles, guidelines or polices, I think we need to implement actions in order to make our state solvent again,” Ugaste told the McHenry Times.
“First, we need to spend less than we generate in revenue,” he said. “Second, we need to create a long-term debt repayment plan that does not include new taxes; third, we need to stop chasing away business owners by passing regulations, taxes, fees and restriction on the businesses that create jobs for Illinois residents.”
Ugaste, a Geneva Republican, longs to be part of the solution, and he is running for the seat held by retiring Rep. Steve Andersson (R-Geneva) in the 65th District on a platform of trimming some of the state’s massive units of governments.
“There are too many units of local government,” Ugaste said, adding that all the redundancy has largely fueled out-of-control property taxes.
Recent government statistics show that from 2008 to 2015 average property taxes across the state grew at a rate more than six times faster than household incomes. Researchers also noted those property tax spikes have come at a time when investment in home equity has drastically declined across Illinois.
“We need to address the spending problem, lower our taxes and make Illinois a pro-growth state again by enacting reforms that will cause businesses not to just to stay here but also locate in Illinois again,” he previously told the Kane County Reporter. “Once we change the above, as well as the culture of government in this state from one that acts as if the residents of Illinois are there for the benefit of those who govern to a government that is there for the benefit of the people, our population will start to grow again.”
The 65th House District includes Batavia, Geneva, St. Charles, Pingree Grove, Hampshire and Huntley.
