Rep. Steve Andersson (R-Geneva), who is retiring from the state legislature, said goodbye to his peers at the May 31 House floor debate.

Before presenting his last bill, Andersson reflected on his floor leadership in the past, when he said he was able to answer questions for some of his peers including Reps. Melissa Conyears-Ervin (D-Chicago), David Welter (R-Morris), Julianna Stratton (D-Chicago) and Sonya Harper (D-Chicago).

“And even Dave Severin, who was nervous, and others,” Andersson said, adding he was glad to serve and was happy to be part of everyone’s history on the House floor.

Saying his goodbyes with some fun, Rep. Peter Breen (R-Lombard) noted his final bill passed unanimously through the House and Senate before jokingly asking about the opposition.

“It was a tough fight, Peter; it really was because you were leading that battle so fortunately, I won,” Andersson said laughing.

“Thank you for your service… . Godspeed,” Breen concluded.

His friend Rep. Christian Mitchell (D-Chicago) also expressed his thanks to Anderson, who according to Mitchell represents the best of what lawmakers do on the House floor.

"Our friendship has changed my life," Mitchell said. "You have done so much you can hang your hat on."
