Huntley Community School District 158 issued the following announcement on Dec. 4.
Huntley High School junior Ian Geisler has been named Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year by the Northwest Herald.
Geisler was runner-up in the Fox Valley Conference Meet, champion at the Class 3A Guilford Regional, runner-up at the Waubonsie Valley Sectional and 17th at the state meet to earn Class 3A All-State honors. As a sophomore, he was selected to the All-Area First Team.
He was joined on the paper’s All-Area First Team by fellow Red Raider senior Jadon Conroy.
Conroy and Geisler helped guide HHS to the Fox Valley Conference Meet championship and advance to the Class 3A state meet. Conroy took 39th at state, was 13th in the Waubonsie Valley Sectional, second in the Guilford Regional and finished sixth in the FVC Meet.
He also made the paper’s first team last year.
Senior Chris Simek also was named as an honorable mention to the All-Area Team.
