Harvard Community Unit School District 50 issued the following announcement on Feb. 20.

Last October Mercyhealth Hospital and Medical Center-Harvard’s Leanne Neely contacted the school district inquiring about students needs at Harvard Junior High. Neely acknowledged that traditional back-to-school drives held in the fall do not account for ongoing student needs through the school year. Neely and her staff focused on gathering donations for students’ post-winter break requirements.

On Tuesday, Leanne Neely and Annie Howe delivered an assortment of donated supplies including soap, shampoo, deodorant, dental hygiene items, and socks for junior high students. The staff at Mercy Health and Hospital collected the items throughout the fall and early winter.

Harvard Junior High social worker Taylor Koester said, “When people think of donations for schools, they often think of pens, pencils, and paper, but our students also need basic toiletries and personal care products. We are grateful for the continued support of the staff at Mercy.”

Mercy made a similar donation to students for the 2017-2018 school year, and Neely and her staff plan to provide future donations for the junior high.
